Gorloks struggle in 87-65 loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering

(Milwaukee, Wisc.) – The Webster Gorloks men’s basketball squad had its two game winning streak snapped in an 87-65 loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering on Tuesday night in Milwaukee, Wisc.

MSOE (6-3) led throughout the half building a 31-17 lead with about 10 minutes to play in the half, but Tyler Tiemann (Steeleville, Ill.) provided a spark off the bench for Webster (4-4) with back-to-back threes to pull them within four just two minutes later. After a MSOE timeout the Raiders responded with a 10-0 spurt to push the lead back to double figures heading into the break. The Gorloks shot 41 percent (11-of-27) from the floor but had no answer for MSOE (-) as it shot the ball even better going 14-of-25 (56 percent). Webster couldn’t stop the Raiders’ Scott Murphy and Bennett Deacon as they combined to shot 8-of-9 from the floor and score 24 points. Steve Hrdlicka (Labadie, Mo.) led the way for the Gorloks with seven points and Tiemann chipped in with six. WU held a slim margin on the boards with a 13-11 advantage.

In the second half it was all Raiders as they opened the frame on a 13-4 run to extend their lead to 56-35 just three minutes in. The Gorloks battled back cutting the lead to 14 points but would get no closer than that as WU could not find an answer for MSOE’s offense. After shooting 56 percent in the first half the Raiders were even better in the second frame connecting on 13-of-19 (68 percent). The Gorloks meanwhile were held to only 34 percent (12-of-35). MSOE made 26 free throws compared to only 25 attempts for Webster. Brad Robinson finished with 13 points to lead WU while Hrdlicka had 11.
