(St. Louis, Mo.) – The Webster Gorloks men’s basketball squad picked up its second straight win with a 91-67 victory over the Lincoln College Preachers on Saturday afternoon at Webster.
The Gorloks (4-3) scored the first seven points of the contest and 14 of the first 17 and never looked back en route to the victory. WU’s offense shot the ball at nearly a 60 percent clip (21-of-36) in the opening stanza in building a 21 point lead. The Preachers (3-7) fought back however cutting Webster’s lead to 49-34 at intermission. Darin Hoggatt (Fordland, Mo./Fordland HS) led the way for the Gorloks with 10 points. Corey Kuhn (Bridgman, Mich./Bridgman HS) added nine points while Steve Hrdlicka (Labadie, Mo./Pacific HS) chipped in with eight more.
The second half was more of the same for WU as they stormed out of the break with a 15-2 run to build its largest lead of the afternoon at 64-36 almost 4:30 minutes into the frame. Ryan Turk (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill HS) had seven points in the run while Brad Robinson (Tarpon Springs, Fla./Tarpon Springs HS) had four more. The rest of the half was a see-saw battle between the Gorloks offense and Lincoln Christian’s Jon Wallace. Every time WU’s offense would score it seemed like Wallace had an answer as he was nine-of-10 from the floor in the stanza with 18 points and finished with a game-high 30 points. At one stretch in the game he made 13 straight shots.
Webster finished the contest shooting 56 percent (40-of-72) from the field and had five players reach double figures in scoring led by Hoggatt with 13. Hrdlicka and Turk had 12 points apiece, Kuhn chipped in with 11 while Robinson narrowly missed his second straight double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds.
