Gorloks bounce back with an 81-52 win over Blackburn

(St. Louis, Mo.) – The Webster Gorloks bounced back from a loss at Washington U., on Monday with an 81-52 win over Blackburn College on Wednesday evening at Webster. With the victory WU snapped a three game home losing streak to the Beavers.

            The Gorloks (6-5, 3-0 SLIAC) started the game fast racing out to a 10-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest. After a pair of lay-ups by Blackburn (1-9, 0-4 SLIAC) cut the lead to eight points Webster scored the next 10 points led by Brad Robinson, who had five in the run. At one point the Gorloks were shooting 73 percent (8-of-11) eventually finishing the half 15-for-30 (50 percent) for a 43-27 edge at the break. Robinson led all scorers with 10 points while pulling down 10 boards in the frame. Ryan Turk and Corey Kuhn chipped in with nine each while Darin Hoggatt finished with eight.

            The second frame saw Webster extend its lead to 23 points twice in the first eight minutes and the Beavers would get no closer than 20 the rest of the way. WU emptied its bench as 17 players saw action in the contest with 11 of those tallying at least two points. The Gorloks shot an identical 50 percent (15-of-30) from the floor in the frame while holding BC to just 6-of-24 (25 percent) in the stanza and only 31 percent (15-for-48) for the game. WU had the scoring edge in the paint 34-18 and turned 17 Blackburn turnovers into 22 points.

            Hoggatt had a game high 16 points to lead the way for Webster. Robinson and Steve Hrdlicka had 12 apiece while Turk finished with 11.
