Gorloks hold off Lincoln Christian, 89-80 to win sixth straight

(St. Louis, Mo.) - The Webster Gorloks fought off a late rally from a game Lincoln Christian squad for an 89-80 win on Saturday afternoon in Lincoln, Ill. Webster picked up its sixth straight win and seventh in its last eight games.
The Gorloks (11-5) came out of the gates hot taking a 10 point lead only four minutes into the contest. After a timeout by LCC (5-13) it began chipping away at the lead getting to within five midway through the opening frame behind the three point shooting of Alex Bond and the inside play of Jon Wallace combining for 10 points in the stretch. WU eventually stretched its lead to 40-25 with a minute to play in the stanza but a Landon Callahan three pointer gave the Gorloks a 40-28 advantage at the break. It was the three-point shooting from LCC 4-of-10 (40 percent) that actually kept the game close early as Webster grabbed 26 rebounds including 10 on the offensive end resulting in 14 second chance points for WU.
In the second half the Gorloks saw their lead hover around the 10 point mark for most of the frame as very little defense was played with the two sides combining to shoot 58 percent (39-of-67) and a combined 23 free throws in the stanza. Webster built its lead to 85-69 with three minutes to go before a 9-2 run by Lincoln Christian brought them within nine almost 1:30 later. WU would hit its free throws down the stretch and the Preachers could get no closer than that as Webster held the ball for the remainder of the game securing the victory.
The Gorloks had five players in double figure scoring led by Ryan Turk with 22 points. Brad Robinson had his second straight double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Darin Hoggatt dropped in 14. Luke Niebrugge and Corey Kuhn each had finished with 10.
