(St. Louis, Mo.) - The Webster Gorloks women's tennis squad finished in third place while the men's tennis squad came in fifth place at the SLIAC Tennis Championships this past Friday and Saturday in St. Louis.
The women (8-6, 5-2 SLIAC) went 1-1 last Friday defeating Eureka in the opening round 5-4 winning four of the six singles matches and a doubles match to advance to the semifinals against Greenville. In the match with Greenville though the Gorloks lost 5-2 to fall into the third place match against Maryville on Saturday morning.
Against the Saints, WU got off to a good start winning the first four singles matches three of which were straight set decisions to head into the doubles portion of the match with a 4-2 lead. Webster would win two of the three doubles matches taking a 6-3 victory over MU and finish in third.
The men (5-8) lost their opening round match to Greenville 5-4 on Friday losing two of the three doubles matches but came back to tie the match up at 4-4 all but was unable to pull of the upset dropping the final singles match in straight sets.
The loss knocked the Gorloks into the consolation bracket where they received a bye into the fifth place match on Saturday afternoon against Eureka. In that match it was all Webster taking five of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches to coast to a 7-2 win and the fifth place finish.
Three Webster players earned All-SLIAC honors for its efforts over the season. Senior

Alex Meyer earned honorable mention at the number 1 and two singles spots respectively and both were named to the honorable mention squad at the number 1 doubles position. Sophomore
Rolf Rothermel was the lone guys representative on the all conference squad earning honorable mention honors for number one singles.
