Momma said there will be nights like this.

Senior Ryan Turk led a shooting barrage with a career-high 32 points on 11-of-15 shooting, including 6-of-7 from three-point land as Webster shot 58 percent from the field in downing Spalding Friday, 82-69, at Grant Gymnasium.

After missing two of his first three shots, the 5-9 guard connected on seven straight baskets - including three straight three pointers.

The Gorloks continued a trend from its last game by attacking the basket which enabled them to go to the free throw line 22 times and they converted on 17. In the last two games, Webster has attempted 56 free throws. In contrast, WU attempted 55 free throws combined in the previous five games.

In a hotly contest match-up for most of the first half, the home team broke through late with a 19-6 run which enabled them to take a seven-point advantage into the locker rooms.

However, the seven-point bulge nearly evaporated just one minute into the half with two quick Golden Eagle buckets. Back-to-back three pointers from senior Steve Hrdlicka and Ryan Turk sparked a 13-2 spurt to push the lead to double figures and Spalding never challenged from that point. The visitors did draw to within eight, but a 14-3 run slammed the door on any thoughts of a comeback.

Hrdlicka added 11 points, while junior Josue Whitcomb nearly achieved a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Webster (5-7 overall, 2-2 SLIAC) continue its five-game homestand 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when the Gorloks host Maryville in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

on Ryan Turk

"That the kind of performance we've been hoping for all year. He did a little better job of letting everyone help him get open ... When he shoots well, we play well. It was like that last season as well. When he shot it well, teams couldn't double on Brad (Robinson) and Darrin (Hoggatt). He had a heck of a game today; it was fun to watch.

on other players

"Josue (Whitcomb) was key. He grabbed 10 rebounds, nine of them defensive. He just got us a lot of stops. He is not the tallest person, but he has a nose for the ball. Nick Jones and Steve Hrdlicka played well for us. Steve has picked a good time to start playing well.

on Spalding

"They are a nice little team. They are going to give some people fits in our league next season.
