Old and New Gorloks Spring-field Into Action

Men's Basketball Drops Exhibition to Drury, 66-47

The Webster University men's basketball team lost an exhibition match with Drury University, 66-47, in Springfield, MO, on November 12.  The Webster coaching staff had their first opportunity to see the mix of returning players, and new transfers, they are hoping will contribute right away this season.

Junior Nick Jones (Heritage HS, IL), one of the returnees being counted on to fill the gap left by the graduation of three seniors, led Webster with 17 points.  Jones, who averaged 8 points per game last season mostly off the bench, also pulled down five rebounds before fouling out.  Scott Restoff (JR, Mater Dei HS, IL) had a team-high seven rebounds and chipped in three points.

Newcomer Drew Moore, a transfer from Meramec C.C., had 11 points and a team-high six steals.  Moore was seven for seven from the free throw line.  Fellow transfer Jeremiah Garrett (Florissant Valley C.C.) had four points in limited minutes.

Webster led 29-28 at halftime, shooting 42% from the field.  A frosty 16% second-half shooting doomed the Gorloks as Drury outscored them 38-18 to secure the win.  Team bright spots for the game included a 15-18 free throw performance and 13 steals.  An announced crowd of 621, probably the largest crowd the Gorloks will see this season, took in the action in Springfield.

The regular season finds Webster on the road for its first four games.  It opens on November 18 against Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, IL.  The Gorloks home opener is on December 2 versus Blackburn College.
