BOX SCORE)
Freshman
Ayrica Lockett recorded her eighth double-double of the season Saturday as Webster fell to Blackburn in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Grant Gymnasium, 68-57.
Webster controlled most of the first half, owning as much as a eight-point lead following a three-pointer by sophomore
Katy Meyer. But a 15-8 run to end the first half gave Blackburn the lead and the momentum.
The visitors took the momentum and seized the game by scoring 20 of 25 points in the early stages of the second half. Webster continued to fight back, and had a chance to cut its deficit to four. However, a missed layup led to a fastbreak three-pointer - essentially thwarting any chance of a comeback. The three-pointer sparked the Beavers to nine straight points as they opened up a game-high 15 points (60-45).
Meyer scored a team-high 16 points, 13 of which were in the first half, while Lockett finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The combination of the Gorloks' 68-57 loss to Blackburn and a Fontbonne victory made it mathematically impossible for Webster to qualify for the four-team postseason tournament.
NOTES
- Freshman Myrtie Reilly had four blocks, moving her two from setting a new single-season mark.
- Katy Meyer moved into seventh place all-time with four three-pointers, and needs one to tie for sixth place.
