Men's Tennis Toppled by Mo. Bap.

Freshman Ryan Fassler earned his first collegiate victory to post Webster's only win as WU fell to Missouri Baptist, 8-1, in their 2009 season opener Thursday. Though not the first time the team has played this school year, this is the first time they have played in a non-exhibition setting.

Fassler picked up the three-set victory (4-6, 6-2, 6-2) in sixth singles.

The Gorloks were without their top two performers in 2008 all-conference performer, Rolf Rothermel and junior transfer, Keating Mohrmay.  The team looks forward to competing with these two in the lineup.

“Once we get everyone here, we will be hard to beat,” said junior Dino Fajic, who played #1 singles in place of Rothermel, “with Rolf and Keating, everyone will move down a spot and be much more competitive.”

The next match for WU comes on Saturday, March 21 at 9 a.m., when the Gorloks take on conference rival Fontbonne University at the Webster Groves Recreation Complex.  This will be the first home match for the team this season, as well as their first conference matchup.  The Gorloks have not lost a match to the Griffins since 2007 and did not lose a game to them last year.
