Tennis Earns Identical 7-2 Wins

The Webster tennis teams earned identical 7-2 victories Tuesday in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Webster Groves Recreation Center. The men's team concluded their regular season with the victory over Maryville, while the women defeated Principia.

The Gorlok women won the hard fought battle with the Panthers by picking up two three sets matches and another two matches that went to seven points in the second set.

Amanda Vest turned in the most impressive singles victory with the 6-1, 6-2 win in fourth singles. Sophomore Alex Meyer extended her singles winning streak to four with the 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 win in the first flight. In the second singles, Allison Tungate was also pulled out the three-set victory, recording the 4-6, 6-0, 10-5 win.

In fifth singles, Megan Eakes posted the 6-2, 7-6 win and Hannah Wojahn was victorious in sixth singles, 6-4, 7-5. The only singles loss came in the third flight as Paige Tungate fell in three, 3-6, 6-3, 5-10.

The Tungates paired to record an 8-6 win in first doubles and then the pair of Eakes and Wojahn won in third doubles, 8-3. Meyer and Vest fell in second doubles, 3-8.

In men's action, Webster wrapped up its regular season in pretty convincing fashion. Rolf Rothermel led the charge with a 6-0, 6-0 win in first singles, while Zach Papes posted a 6-0, 6-1 win in third singles. Dino Fajic won 6-0, 6-2 in fifth singles and Ryan Fassler posted the 6-1, 6-2 win in the sixth singles flight.

Tomoya Homma was extended three set before pulling out the 6-3, 6-7, 10-4 win. Billy White fell in second singles, 2-6, 1-6.

The pair of Rothermel and Fajic won in first doubles, 8-5, while White and Satrio Norojono won in third doubles, 8-2. Papes and Homma fell in second doubles, 6-8.
