The Webster men’s soccer team (0-5) was kept out of the win column as Illinois Wesleyan (1-1-2) posted their own first win of the season, 2-1, at the Soccer Park on September 13. Play see-sawed back and forth between the two teams in the first half, with Webster owning a 9-3 advantage in shots.
Thirty seconds into the second half, the Gorloks took the lead on goal by Kyle Leifeld (Jr.-Marquette HS, STL) off a cross from Aaron Belisle (Sr.-Lindbergh HS, STL). A rebound shot, off a save, past Webster goalie Matt Gerninger (Sr.-Hazelwood Central-STL) tied the game for Wesleyan just four minutes later.
Webster’s best opportunity to regain the lead came when a Mike Riti (Sr.-Webster Groves, STL) shot went wide of goal. Wesleyan then scored the winning goal with 4:10 remaining on a goal by freshman Jeff Graham. The Gorloks have a week off before facing the University of Dubuque on September 20 at the Soccer Park at 2:30 pm.
