The Webster University men's basketball team won its fourth straight St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game, defeating Fontbonne University, 72-48, at Grant Gymnasium on January 13. A raucous crowd of 400 plus cheered on as Webster wore down the Griffins.
Webster pulled to a 12-point halftime lead, then executed a 13-0 run to extend the lead to 23, midway through the second half. A dunk by
Nick Jones (JR, Heritage HS, IL) during the run particularly pleased the home fans. The Gorloks played well defensively, recording a season-high six blocks to go with a 16-rebound advantage (46-30). Fontbonne senior Joshua Branch, averaging 22 points per game, was held to four by the Gorloks.
Junior forward
Drew Moore (Northwest HS, STL) led the Gorlok charge with 21 points, eight rebounds and, blocked four shots. Jones scored 19 points and had a team season-high seven assists. # Robby Meeh# (JR, Lindbergh HS, STL) had a season-high 14 points for the game.
The Gorloks play next at Greenville College (IL) on January 20, then return home to face Westminster College in a battle for first place. Westminster sits in first in the SLIAC at 5-0, with Webster tied for second place at 5-1. Webster is 8-7 overall, after winning its fifth game in its last six contests.
