Webster Falls at Home, Slips to Third in SLIAC

Westminster 71 Webster 59

The Webster University men's basketball team lost to Westminster College, 71-59, at Grant Gymnasium on January 23.  The loss to the first-place Bluejays dropped the Gorloks into a thrid-place tie in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Gorloks had the hot hand early, and raced to a 9-0 lead to start the game.  The Bluejays battled back and took a 34-31 halftime lead, then picked up where they left off in the second-half, extending the lead to 14 with 11 minutes remaining in the game.  Webster battled back to cut the lead to five with three minutes to play, but back-to-back layups by Westminster's Ky Millard ended any hopes of a comeback.

Drew Moore (JR, Northwest HS, STL) had a double-double for the Gorloks, scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.  Nick Jones (JR, Heritage HS, IL) led Webster with 16 points and Scott Restoff (JR, Mater Dei HS, IL) added 12.

The Gorloks are 5-3 in the SLIAC at the mid-season point, tied for third place with MacMurray College IL).  They play next at Blackburn College (IL) on January 27.  The Beavers are currently last in the SLIAC with a 1-7 record.  Webster returns home on January 30 to take on MacMurray at 3 pm.  The induction of the inaugural class of the Webster University Athletics Hall o Fame will take place at halftime of that contest.
