The Webster University women’s basketball team defeated the MacMurray Highlanders, 71-49, at Grant Gymnasium on January 30. The win kept the Gorloks in a tie for first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with an 8-2 record, rebounding from a tough road loss.
Katy Meyer (JR, Parkway Central HS, STL) and
Tori Fenemor (FR, St. Charles HS, STL) returned to action after missing the Blackburn College (IL) game, on January 23, with injuries. Webster had fallen into the tie after an overtime loss to Blackburn. Meyer helped spark the Gorloks return to the win column with 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists for the game.
Webster hit its first three 3-point attempts to pull to a 9-2 lead. By halftime, the lead had grown to 20. When the final buzzer sounded, 11 different Gorloks were in the scoring column. The Gorloks were proficient beyond the 3-point arc, hitting 10 of 21 attempts for the game.
Blair Underwood (SO, Webster Groves HS, STL) led Webster with 13 points, hitting three of five 3-point shots.
Barissa Ford (JR, Clayton HS, STL) added 10 points and
Maggie Zehner (FR, Oakville HS, STL) led the Gorloks with six assists. Freshman Jaime Gaal (Urusline Academy, STL) was perfect from the field, shooting three for three from the 3-point line for nine points.
Webster is 12-6 overall, and the 12 wins are the most in a season since the 2005-06 year. Webster continues its three-game home stand, with a break in the SLIAC, against St. Mary of the Woods College (IN) on January 31. The Gorloks complete the home stand against Greenville College (IL) on February 3.
