Gorloks Grab Share of SLIAC Lead

Webster 64 Eureka 56

The Webster University men's basketball team grabbed a share of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference lead by defeating Eureka College (IL), 64-56, at Grant Gymnasium on January 6.  The Gorloks held the Red Devils offense, which sports two 20 point per game scorers, in check and ran their SLIAC record to 3-1.

Both teams shot as if the much anticipated cold front heading toward St. Louis had entered Grant Gymnasium, as both teams shot a combined 31 percent from the field.  The Gorloks extended a four-point halftime lead to 14 by hitting four of their first five shots, including two threes.  The Red Devils answered with an 8-0 run, but Webster hit back to back baskets to end the threat.

Drew Moore (JR, Webster Groves HS, STL) led the Gorloks with 17 points and seven rebounds.  Scott Restoff (JR, Mater Dei HS, IL) had a solid effort with seven points, five rebounds, and a team-high five assists.

With the win, Webster improves to 6-7 on the season and ends a four-game losing streak to Eureka.  The Gorloks head to Principia College on January 9 before heading home to face Fontbonne University on January 13.
