The Women’s basketball team won a thriller as Webster University defeated Augustana College (IL), 62-60, at Grant Gymnasium on November 27, 2010. A Maggie Zehner (SO, Oakville HS) basket with five seconds left in the game sealed the victory, after a flurry of Gorlok second-half three-pointers helped them overcome the Vikings.
The Gorloks trailed by as many as 10 points in the game, before taking a 41-40 lead at 14:00 of the second half on a Blaire Underwood three-pointer. Six different Gorloks sank second-half threes, as the score see-sawed back and forth. With Augustana up by four with 3:30 remaining, a Megan Willett (JR, Parkway West HS) three-pointer closed the gap to one. A three by Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS) at 1:40, put Webster ahead, 60-59.
Meyer led Webster with 16 points and had six rebounds. Barissa Ford (SR, Clayton HS) and Zehner each had 14 points and pulled down six rebounds each. Willett led the Gorloks with seven rebounds. The win put Webster at 2-3 on the young season.
The Gorloks next game is at MacMurray College (IL) on December 1, as St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play begins. Webster’s next home game is on December 4 vs. Eureka College (IL).
