Men Finish Lon Varnell Classic 2-0 With Win

The men’s basketball team finished the Lon Varnell Classic 2-0 as Webster defeated Berry College (GA), 76-71, on December 18 in Sewanee, TN. Willie Trimble (JR, Riverside CC, CA) had a team high 21 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three steals in the win.

The Gorloks pulled ahead with 2:44 left in the first half and would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way. Nick Jones (SR, Heritage HS, IL) had a standout game as well for Webster, hitting the 20 point mark for the first time this season, and grabbing five rebounds. Freshman Alec Kuhl (Mater Dei HS, IL) came off the bench and scored nine points and had seven rebounds.

Webster won its second straight game without the services of Drew Moore (SR, Northwest HS), the team’s leading rebounder, and fourth highest scoring average. Moore continues to nurse an ankle injury.

Webster is 5-4 overall as it heads into the holiday break. The team will have a two-week break before jumping back into St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on January 4, at Blackburn College (IL). The Gorloks next home game is on January 6 vs. Principia College (IL).
