The Webster University women’s basketball lost a non-conference game to Washington University, 55-43, on December 18 at Grant Gymnasium. Webster hung with Wash U, ranked 5th nationally in the NCAA, trailing only 42-40 with 9:00 remaining in the game, but was worn down by the taller Bears in the stretch.
Webster may have suffered a greater loss when Barissa Ford (SR, Clayton HS) went down with an injury three minutes into the contest. Ford appeared to have buckled her knee on a layup attempt. She is the second leading scorer for the Gorloks, second in steals, third in assists, and fourth in rebounds.
Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS had a team leading 11 rebounds and two blocks, to go along with six points. Maggie Zehner (SO, Oakville HS) led the Gorloks with eight points, had six rebounds, and four assists.
The Gorloks are 5-4 overall on the season. The team will be spending a few days in California as they take on Whittier College and Pomona College on December 29-30. They face Blackburn College (IL) on the road on January 4 before returning home to take on Principia College (IL) on January 6.
