Gorloks Drop OT Bout To Westminster, 88-84

OT Loss on Road to First-Place Team is 3rd in SLIAC Play

The Webster University men's basketball team battled but found itself on the short end of an overtime decision, losing 88-84, at Westminster College on February 10.  The Gorloks had several solid individual performances, but couldn't overcome an efficient shooting performance by the Bluejays that included a 12-24 pace from the 3-point line.

Drew Moore (JR, Northwest HS, STL) once again led the Gorloks, scoring 26 points, hitting 5-11 from beyond the 3-point arc, and grabbing seven rebounds.  Reggie Smith (SR, Bollingbrook HS, IL), had 12 points, four rebounds, and only one turnover in 40 minutes of play.  Smith was making his first start of the season, subbing for the injured Nick Jones.

Freshman Cody Bradfisch (Jerseyville HS, IL) had 14 points, hitting all five of his two-point attempts, and picked up five rebounds.  Scott Restoff (JR, Mater Dei HS, IL) had 15 points and Josue Whitcomb (SR, Blue Valley West HS, KS) had 10 points.

The Gorloks, down by four at the half, stayed close in the second half before taking a one-point lead with 3:20 remaining.  Down by two with 23 seconds remaining in regulation, Moore hit a layup at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.  A wide-open OT ensued, with 30 points being scored by both teams in the five-minute session.  Westminster opened up a five-point lead with 1:30 to play and held on to win.

Webster is 7-6 in the SLIAC and 10-12 overall.  The Gorloks have two more home contests remaining, February 16 vs. Principia College (IL), and February 20 vs. Spalding University (KY).  The game on February 16 is Senior Night, with six seniors being honored.
