Gorloks Explode, 93-69, Over Principia on Senior Night

The Webster University men’s basketball team held onto fourth-place, in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, with a 93-69 win at home against Principia College (IL) on February 16. It was Senior Night, with six seniors being honored in a ceremony between the men’s and women’s contests.

The six seniors, who will play their final home game on February 20 vs. Spalding University (KY) are: Justin Endo (Seabury Hall HS, HI), John Ortwerth (DeSmet Jesuit HS, STL), Reggie Smith (Bollingbrook HS, IL), Jerry Strickland (Hesperia HS, CA), Mat Trippett (New Haven HS, MO), and Josue Whitcomb (Blue Valley West HS, KS).

Ortwerth led the senior contingent with nine points and five rebounds. Scott Restoff (JR, Mater Dei HS, IL) led the Gorloks, and tied his season high, with 18 points.  Drew Moore (Northwest HS, STL) had 16 points and a team-high 11 rebounds for the game. Cody Bradfisch (FR, Jerseyville HS, IL) had 14 points and six rebounds.

Webster nursed a 10-point lead for most of the game until a 12-0 run midway through the second-half extended the lead to 20. The 93 points scored by Webster was the most by the team since the Gorloks hit 97 vs. MacMurray College on January 31, 2009.

The Gorloks are 8-6 in the SLIAC and 11-12 overall. They are home again to face Spalding University (KY) on February 20 and complete the SLIAC regular season at Fontbonne University on February 23.
