The Webster University men’s basketball leap-frogged back into fourth-place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, with a 55-54 win against Spalding University (KY) on February 16. With one game left on the SLIAC schedule, the Gorloks are 9-6 in the conference. Webster evened their overall record at 12-12.
A pair of free throws by Drew Moore (Northwest HS, STL) put the Gorloks up for good after a Spalding free throw with 1:00 left had given it a one-point lead. A turnover by Spalding, working the clock for a final shot, secured the win. An 11-0 run at 11:00 of the second-half, capped by Cody Bradfisch (FR, Jerseyville HS, IL) and Moore 3-pointers, put Webster up by eight but Spalding clawed its way back to take the lead.
Moore led the Gorloks with 17 points. Robby Meeh (JR, Lindbergh HS, STL) had eight points, pulled down 12 rebounds, and had three assists.
A basketball team involved with the Special Olympics, the South County Wildcats, played a 5:00 minute scrimmage at halftime. Gorlok fans roared with approval every time a Wildcat sank a basket.
Webster completes the regular season at Fontbonne University on February 23. The SLIAC post-season tournament will be held on February 25 & 27 at Westminster College in Fulton, MO.
