Completing a successful fall schedule, the Webster University men's and women's tennis teams picked up victories on October 8, at the Webster Groves Tennis Center. The Webster men defeated Lindenwood University-Belleville (IL) and Concordia Seminary, and the Webster women defeated Lindenwood as well.
The men defeated Lindenwood, 8-1, sweeping the singles and taking two of three doubles. Against Concordia the men won, 7-2, going 5-1 in singles and taking two in doubles that match also. The Gorloks finished up 4-1 on the fall.
Diego Alarcon (JR, American School, Ecuador), Ricky Eaves (JR, McCluer North HS), and Josh Sellmeyer (JR, Mehlville HS), all went 4-0 on the afternoon, winning both in singles and doubles in both matches. Josh Papes (FR, McCluer North HS), was 3-0 with a single and two doubles victories.
The Webster women took four of six singles and one doubles match against Lindenwood-Belleville, winning 6-3. Allison Tungate (SR, Flora HS, IL), Paige Tungate (SR, Flora HS, IL), and Marissa Lewis (FR, Owasso HS, OK) all were victorious in singles and doubles for the women's squad. The women finished the fall at 7-1.
The teams are hoping for continued success in the spring as both battle to bring home St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles. The men aren't back in action until February 11, when they face Illinois College indoors at Jacksonville, IL. The women take to the court again on March 3 at the WGTC vs. Lindenwood-Belleville.
