Box Score The Webster University women’s basketball team lost at Washington University, 54-44, on December 17. The Gorlok pressure defense did its job, forcing 10
th ranked Washington U. into 20 turnovers, but Webster couldn’t get the big baskets on offense to pull off an upset of the Bears.
Webster pulled out to an early lead and was down one, 26-25, at the half. The Gorloks kept the game close with a number of forced turnovers. A three-pointer by Gwen Williams (JR, Ft. Zumwalt West HS) with 3:13 left in the game, pulled Webster within three, 43-40. After an Airyn Miller (SO, Belleville West HS, IL) basket, and a layup by Loren Douglass (SR, Marquette HS), Webster still trailed by three with 1:40 remaining, but they would be the last points Webster would score.
Williams finished with 13 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Maggie Zehner (JR, Oakville HS) was all over the court as she had five points, five rebounds, three assists, and four steals on the afternoon. Freshman Cassie Endicott (Civic Memorial HS, IL) had eight points and four rebounds for the game.
Webster is 1-7 on the season. The Gorloks have another road test as they travel to Terre Haute, IN, on December 19 to take on the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Webster returns home on December 30, as they face the College of St. Scholastica (MN) at Grant Gymnasium.
