Beavers Paddle Gorloks, 59-45

The Webster University women’s basketball couldn’t solve Blackburn College, losing 59-45 at home, on February 9, at Grant Gymnasium. The Beavers swept the regular season series from the Gorloks, inflicting two of Webster’s four losses in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS) recorded a double-double with 10 points and rebounds for the game.

After falling behind 14-4 to start the contest, the Gorloks rallied for a five-point, 20-15 halftime deficit. Webster would close to two to start the second, but the Beavers wore the Gorloks down as they pulled away for the win.  Maggie Zehner (SO, Oakville HS) led the Gorloks with 12 points.

Webster is 8-4 in the SLIAC and 13-8 overall. The Gorloks play the final game of a three-game home stand on February 11, when they face Spalding University (KY) on a rare Friday night contest. It will be ‘The Pink Zone’ night at Grant Gymnasium, with the women’s basketball team raising the awareness of breast cancer with various activities and fundraisers.
