Tennis Beats Snow, Sweeps Maryville

As the only Gorlok teams to beat the weekend weather in the St. Louis area, the men's and women's tennis teams swept Maryville University, after the matches were moved to the Webster Groves Tennis Center on March 27.  The Gorlok men skunked the Saints 9-0, and the women won 7-2.

For the men, Ryan Fassler (JR, Lutheran South HS) improved to 4-1 in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #6.  Adis Beganovic (SR, St. John the Baptist HS) and Diego Alarcon (SO, American School, Ecuador) both pushed their season singles records to 4-2 with a 6-1, 6-0 wins in the #5 and #2 spots. Sophomore Ricky Eaves (McCluer North HS) improved to 3-1 in doubles with a 8-3 at #1, paired with Alarcon.  The men are 4-2 overall.

On the women's side, Allison Tungate (JR, Flora HS, IL) and Kate Coen (JR, Rockwood Summit HS) both won their third straight singles and doubles matches, as the women won its third straight team match to improve to 3-1 on the season.

The tennis teams, and the softball and baseball teams, had matches and games cancelled Friday-Sunday, due to sleet, cold, and the three inches of snow that fell in St. Louis on Saturday afternoon,  The courts at the WGTC were deemed playable by 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, and after the match was moved from Maryville, both Webster tennis teams added victories.

The men's and women's track and field teams were able to play through cool, windy, and wet conditions in Memphis, TN.

The women take to the court next on March 31 at Blackburn College (IL) as they open play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  The men open up SLIAC play on April 1 at Fontbonne University.
