Sewanee Singes Webster, 78-68, in Opener

Box Score Dug into a first half hole, the Webster University men's basketball team never recovered as it lost, 78-68, to Sewanee College (TN), in the first round of the Cavallo Classic, on November 17.  Down by 14 early, it was a case of one step forward, one step backward, for the Gorloks for the remainder of the contest.

Falling behind by 14 after an early shower of threes by Sewanee, Webster cut the lead to nine, only for the Tigerst to run off eight more points to open up 17-point lead, 33-16.  Webster went into the locker room down, 35-22.    In the second half, the Gorloks whittled the lead to, 41-33, at the 15:30 mark...only for Sewanee to respond with a three-point play.  Every time the Gorloks would make a big basket, the Tigers had an answer.

Back to back 3-pointers by Cody Bradfisch (SR, Jerseyville HS, IL) pulled Webster within five with 9:50 left in the second half, 55-50.  Another three-point play by Tigers at 3:23, put them back up, 66-58, and the Gorloks would not challenge again.

Bradfisch led Webster with 13 points and Ahmad Smith (SO, Clayton HS, MO) had 12 points and four rebounds.  Roman Robinson (SR, Merritt CC, CA) had nine points and a team-high five rebounds before fouling out with four minutes left in the game.

The Gorloks take on Rust College on November 18 in the second round of the Classic.  Webster travels over the Thanksgiving weekend to play in the Blue and Gold Classic in Louisville, KY on November 23-24.  Webster will face Cincinnati Christian (OH) on the 23rd and Asbury College (KY) on the 24th.
