Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team lost in the second round of the Cavallo Tip-Off, 55-48, to Rust College (MS) at Grant Gymnasium on November 17. Webster finishes the Tip-Off at 1-1.
The Gorloks entered the locker room at the half ahead after Courtney Pursley (JR, St. Clair HS, MO) took a pass outside the top of the key with .5 seconds remaining and nailed a three-pointer to give Webster a 29-23 lead. The Gorloks got away with shooting 25% in the half, but the Bearcats outshot Webster, 50-29%, in the second. Webster was outscored 32-19 in the half, and Rust took the game.
Rust quickly eroded Webster's halftime lead, jumping out in front, 34-31, at 14:50 in the second. Over the next 12 minutes the lead changed hands numerous times until a Rust three-pointer, with 2:44 remaining, gave them the lead for good.
Gwen Williams (SR, Ft. Zumwalt West HS, MO) had 12 points to lead the Gorloks. Pursley chipped in with five points and a team-high seven rebounds. Jamie Buehrig (SO, Bishop DuBourg HS, MO) had seven points, five rebounds, and blocked four shots on the afternoon.
Jessica Brown from Rust College was named the Most Valuable Player for the tournament. Cassie Endicott (SO, Civic Memorial HS, IL) was named to the All-Tournament Team. The full team:
