The Webster University men's basketball team hosts the Washington University Bears on Wednesday, December 5, at 7:00 p.m. In what is being called "The Big Bend Brouhaha," the Gorloks enter the game with a 4-2 record vs. the Bears, ranked sixth nationally in the NCAA III, and off to a 7-0 start in 2012-13.
The Gorloks have a three-game win streak and are first in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 2-0 record. Webster averages 86 points per game and has topped 90 points three times in six games. Webster has five players averaging in double figures per game: Ahmad Smith (SO, Clayton HS, MO) at 15.8 ppg, Roman Robinson (SR, Rodriguez HS, CA) at 13.7, Cody Bradfish (SR, Jerseyville HS, IL) at 11.2 ppg, Dietrick Sooter (SR, Pierce City HS, MO) at 10.5 ppg, and Aaron Griffin (SO, Velma Jackson HS, MS) at 10.0 ppg.
The Bears have four players averaging over 10 points per game, and shoot .490 from the field as a team, just ahead of the Gorloks .488 pace. Washington U. has outrebounded its opponents by a whopping 294-189 advantage and has a front line that goes 6'7, 6'6, and 6'5.
Webster toppled the Bears two years ago at home, but Washington U. downed the Gorloks, 74-50, on the Hilltop last year. The Gorloks will try to repeat their feat in their home environs.
