Bears Bully Gorloks, 72-49

Box Score The height disadvantage was as advertised, as the Webster University men's basketball team fell to 6th-ranked  Washingon University, 72-49, on December 5, at Grant Gymnasium.  Webster was outrebounded on the offensive boards, 22-7, by the taller Bears, as second chance baskets were the Gorloks undoing.

The Gorloks fell behind, 37-25 at halftime, as the Bears beat them on the boards in the first half, 25-13.  For the game, Washington U. held a 48-25 edge overall in rebounds.  Webster whittled the lead down to 10 points several times in the second half, but Washington U. answered with timely three-pointers to kill any hopes of a comeback.  Webster was down 55-43 at the 8:00 mark in the second half, but a 10-0 Bear run built the lead to 65-43 and Washington U. had the game in hand.

Aaron Griffin (6'6 SO, Velma Jackson HS, MS), the lone Webster starter over 6'3, valiantly battled a Bear front line that averages 6'6, and finished with a team-high seven rebounds and had six points.  Roman Robinson (SR, Angelo Rodriguez HS, CA) and Dietrick Sooter (SR, Pierce City HS, MO) each had 10 points to lead Webster.

Webster is 4-3 on the season.  The Gorloks travel to Chicago to take on Elmhurst College on December 8.  The team has a week off before travelling to Holly Springs, MS to face Rust College on December 15.  Webster's next home game won't be till January 8 when the Gorloks host MacMurray College (IL).
