In a showdown for the #1 seeds in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament, the Webster University men's and women's tennis teams defeated Principia College (IL) on April 14, at the Webster Groves Tennis Center.  The women clinched the #1 seed, finishing undefeated in the SLIAC, with the men's situation less clear.  The men tied Principia in the regular season at 4-1.  The Gorloks have the tie-breaker head to head with Principia, but Westminster College, who defeated Webster but lost to Principia, has two SLIAC matches in hand still and could wind up 4-1 alsol.

Winning its 13th straight match, the women are 17-1 on the season.  The Gorloks took a 2-1 lead in the doubles, and coasted in singles, handily winning five of the match-ups.  Allison Tungate (GR, Flora HS, IL) ran her singles win streak to 15 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #2.  Lindsey Hays (JR, Francis Howell HS) and Lauren Hacker (FR, Corona del Sol HS, AZ) have each won 11 straight single matches with their wins.

For the men, Principia was 10-3 entering the match and had defeated three-time SLIAC champ Westminster earlier this spring.  Falling behind 2-1 in doubles the men rallied in singles, going 5-1 like the women.  But unlike the women, they had to battle for every victory with three of the wins going to three sets.

Josh Sellmeyer (JR, Mehlville HS) stayed unbeaten in singles this year, going 12-0 after winning at #4.  Francissco Cortez (JR, Quincy HS, IL) won his fith straight in singles, winning at #2, and improving to 9-1 on the season.

Both teams will play in the SLIAC tournaments on April 20-21.  Full results for Principia:
