Box Score The Webster University men's basketball team lost to first place Spalding University, 79-49, in Louisville, KY, on January 10. The Golden Eagles go to 4-0 in the SLIAC as the Gorloks drop their third straight in conference, and seventh overall. Webster falls to 2-3 in the SLIAC with the loss.
The Gorloks hung in with the Golden Eagles in the first half, trailing only 24-22 at the intermission as Jarrod Huskey (JR, Hillsboro HS, MO) had nine points and nine rebounds to pace Webster. The Gorloks took a 34-32 lead with 15:45 left, but after an Ahmad Smith (SO, Clayton HS, MO) technical foul, the free throws gave Spalding a 36-35 lead and it was all downhill from there as Webster was outscored, 38-14 the rest of the way.
Webster controlled the boards in the contest, outrebounding Spalding 49-37...including 18 on the offensive end, but shot a cool 34% for the game and gave up 18 turnovers to the Golden Eagles' seven.
Huskey wound up with 11 points and 11 rebounds for the night. Danny Zehner (SO, Oakville HS, MO) led the Gorloks with 13 points and Smith finished up with nine points and five rebounds.
Webster has another road game, at Westminster College on January 15, before resuming the 'Battle of Big Bend' series with Fontbonne University, on January 17, at Grant Gymnasium.
