Box Score The Webster University men's basketball team dropped an 81-76 decision to Rust College (MS) on the second day of the Cavallo Classic, on November 16, at Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks continued to welcome the return of Kevin Miller (JR, Belleville West HS, IL), who led the team with 20 points, as the Gorloks went 1-1 to start the season.
Webster held a 42-36 halftime lead but saw it disappear as Rust opened the second half with an 11-2 run to take a 47-44 lead. The Gorloks challenged for the lead several times but never could get over the hump. Webster had a chance to tie with 13 seconds remaining in the game, down 78-76, but couldn't convert a pair of free throws as Rust went on to secure the win.
Miller finished with team-highs of 20 points and nine rebounds before fouling out with 2:30 left in the contest. Miller last played for Webster as a sophomore in 2009-10 when he averaged 4.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game as injuries limited him to 16 games. Miller, an All-Tourney Team choice, averaged 16 points and eight and a half rebounds per game in Webster's two games.
Ahmad Smith (JR, Clayton HS, MO), also named to the All-Tourney Team, had 17 points and seven rebounds in the loss, as Hollis Edwards (SR, McGavock HS, TN) had eight points and a team-leading five assists. Hank Hawkins (JR, Vianney HS, MO) came off the bench and had nine points and five rebounds in the loss.
