Men's BB Gains SLIAC Berth W/ 89-67 Win Over Prin

Box Score It wasn't officially 'senior' night but the Webster men's basketball starting lineup on February 18 consisted of the five players suiting up for their final home game at Grant.  They didn't disappoint as they propelled the Gorloks to a victory they needed to clinch a berth in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, as Webster defeated Principia College (IL), 89-67.

With the victory, the Gorloks sealed at least a fourth place finish in the SLIAC, as the top four finishers advance to the Tournament.  The winner of the SLIAC Tournament gains an automatic berth in the NCAA III Championships.  Against Principia, Webster pulled to 49-29 halftime lead, with the seniors providing 43 of the points.  Coach Chris Bunch gave plenty of playing time to his bench in the second half as twelve Gorloks landed in the scoring column for the game.

Roman Robinson (SR, Angelo Rodriguez HS, CA) had a gameful in the first half, scoring 19 points on 8 for 11 shooting, and pulling down five rebounds.  Cody Bradfisch (SR, Jerseyville HS, IL) also had double figures in the half, picking up 11 points.  Robinson wound up with 21 points on the night and Bradfisch with 16.

Derrell Lee (SR, Radford HS, MI) finished with 17 points, on 8 of 15 shooting, and six assists.  Jurgen Rama (SR, Mehlville HS, MO) had a team-high seven assists, a team-high four steals, seven rebounds, and three blocks for the game.  Dietrick Sooter (SR, Pierce City HS, MO) also broke double figures with 12 points, and dished out six assists as well.

The Gorloks will learn their first-round opponent in the SLIAC Tournament after the completion of the MacMurray College/Eureka College and Principia/Fontbonne University games on February 19.  Webster could wind up anywhere from the second to the fourth seed.  In any case, the Gorloks will be playing in one of the semi-finals at host Spalding University in Louisville, KY, on February 22.
