The Webster University men's tennis team opened its 2013 season with a split as the Gorloks fell, 6-3, to Cornell College (IA) and defeated host Illinois College, 9-0, on February 9, in Jacksonville, IL. After a close loss to Cornell, Webster salvaged the afternoon with the easy win over the Blue Boys.
Rick Eaves (SR, McCluer North HS, MO) won both of his singles matches, and teamed with Diego Alarcon (SR, American School, Ecuador) to win both of his doubles matches as well. Eaves, playing in the #5 spot, won 6-4, 6-4 against Cornell, and 6-0, 6-0, in his match vs. Illinois College. Eaves and Alarcon slipped by their Cornell counterparts in doubles, 9-8, playing in the #2 slot. Against Illinois College, the pair played at #1 and won handily, 8-1.
