Men' Soccer Ends Season Unbeaten in SLIAC

Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team finished unbeaten in league play as it put the icing on the cake of its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crown with a 1-0 win over Fontbonne University, on November 1, at the Soccer Park.  Once again the duo of Ian McReynolds and Mike Wells played a key role in Webster's victory, as the Gorloks finished 8-0-1 in the SLIAC.

The Gorloks had clinched first place in the SLIAC with their 1-0 win at Greenville on October 28, and with it, the right to host the SLIAC Tournament on November 6.  The Gorloks will once again face Fontbonne, who finished fourth in the SLIAC at 6-3.  The Gorloks become the first team in the 25-year history of the SLIAC to win/share the league title three straight years in a row, winning outright in 2012 and tying in 2013.

Wells (SR, Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS)  gave Webster the lead with 42 minutes left in the second half, on a blast off a free kick from outside the right corner of the Fontbonne penalty box.  For Wells, it was his seventh goal on the year, tying him with Dzani Deliic (FR, St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh HS) for the team lead, and gave him a team-leading 24 points.  It was his 21st goal for Webster, eighth on the Gorloks' career list, and his ninth game-winning goal, putting him third in that career category.

McReynolds (SR, Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS) continues his incredible string in the nets, going 459 straight minutes without allowing a goal.  It was his fifth solo shutout of the season as he improves to 6-4-2 on the year.  In the process, he has lowered his season goals against average to 1.32.

Webster outshot the Griffins, 15-6 in the contest and has six corner kicks to Fontbonne's one.

The Gorloks will host throughout the SLIAC Tournament, should they win on November 6, with the championship game slated for November 8 at 1:00 p.m.
