Box Score The Webster University women's basketball game lost to Bluffton University, 65-59, in the Cavallo Tip-Off at Grant Gymnasium, on November 16. The Gorloks took command early but the Beavers rallied late for the win. Cassie Endicott had a double double for Webster in the loss.
Webster led from the start of the contest till an 11-0 run, midway through the second half, gave Bluffton its first lead, 45-41. The Gorloks were able to tie the score several times, but a Beaver three-pointer with 4:10 remaining in the game gave them the lead for good. Danielle Meadows (SO, Centralia, IL/Centralia HS) hit a three-pointer with 26 seconds remaining to inch the Gorloks within three, at 61-58, but that is as close as Webster would get.
The Gorloks had taken a 26-21 halftime lead as senior Endicott (Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) had 14 points, going 7-7 from the field in the half. Endicott also had a team high six rebounds for the half.
In the second half, it was Brittany Harris-Conway (JR, St. James, MO/John F. Hodge HS) who played large for the Gorloks, scoring 16 points on 5-11 shooting, and going 6-6 at the free throw line.
Harris-Conway and Endicott each would wind up with 20 points in the game. Endicott wound up with a team-high 12 rebounds for her double double, and also had five blocked shots.
Ashley Brooks (JR, Hermann, MO/Hermann HS) finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and three steals for the Gorloks. After a rough start, going 1-8 from the field in the first half, Brooks was 3-3 in the second half, including knocking down her lone three-point attempt.
Turnovers played a large part in the Gorloks demise in the second half, giving up the ball 16 times in the half and 31 in the game. The Beavers wound up with 21 steals for the afternoon.
Kayla Styles from Spalding University, was named the MVP of the Cavallo Tip-Off. Spalding teammate Jessica Guy was also named to the All-Tip-Off Team. Jasmyn Hardin of Dominican University and Macey Sheerer with Bluffton were also named to the team.
Representing Webster on the All-Tip-Off Team were Endicott and Brooks.
The Gorloks (1-1) head to Indiana on November 21-22 to participate in the Anderson University Tournament. Webster faces host Anderson on November 21 and will play either Grove City College or UC-Clermont on November 22.
