Vikings Vex Gorloks, 60-59, Snap Three-Game Win Streak

Box Score Seeing its three-game winning streak come to an end, the Webster University women's basketball team lost to Augustana College (IL), 60-59, on November 29, at Grant Gymnasium.

Cassie Endicott (SR, Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) and Brittany Harris-Conway (JR, St. James, MO/John F. Hodge) led the way for Webster.  Endicott had a team-high 13 points, nine rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Endicott was 9-10 from the free throw line.

Harris-Conway had nine points and tied Endicott for the team-high with nine rebounds.  She was 5-6 from the free throw line as Webster shot 23-26 (88.5%) as a team for the game.

But the Gorloks shot only 15-49 (30.6%) from the field for the game, including 5-27 (18.5%) in the second half.  Twenty-two Webster turnovers, as the Vikings had 15 steals for the contest, also helped lead to the Gorloks' undoing.

The two teams battled throughout the first half, with seven lead changes and no team having a lead larger than three until a pair of free throws by Endicott put Webster up 26-22 with 4:39 left.  Webster extended the lead to 30-22 before Augustana closed to 34-30 at the half.  The Vikings scored a whopping 18 of those points off Gorlok turnovers.

In the second half, Webster pulled back out to an eight-point lead, 38-30, before Augustana went on a 12-0 run, fueled by a pair of three-pointers, to go ahead, 42-38.  Another pair of free throws by Endicott put Webster up, 52-49, with 4:51 left in the game, but a Viking 7-0 run gave them a 56-52 lead, and Augustana was never headed again.

Ashley Brooks (JR, Hermann, MO/Hermann HS) had a team-high five assists, and chipped in with six points.  Alyssa Sapp (JR, Ashland, MO/Southern Boone HS) had a team-high three steals and four rebounds, and Mia Williams (JR, St. Louis, MO/Hazelwood West HS) had eight points, coming off the bench.

Webster is 4-2 overall on the season.  The Gorloks hit the road for a couple of games in the SLIAC, first travelling to Fulton, MO, on December 3 to face Westminster College.  On December 6, Webster will head across the river to Elsah, IL, to take on Principia College (IL).
