Webster Survives Scare at Principia, Wins 77-72 in OT

Box Score After getting a scare, the Webster University men's basketball team improved to 3-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a come from behind, 77-72, win in overtime at Principia College.  The Gorloks had to erase a 33-25 halftime deficit before tying the game and beating the Panthers in overtime.
 
Hunter Ward (SO, St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood HS) led Webster with 19 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, recording his fourth double double in his last five games.  Ward also had a team-high six steals in the contest.  C.J. Moore (SO, Homestead, FL/Miami Killian HS) had a career high, and team-high for the game, 20 points.  Moore also had four assists and five steals for the afternoon

Aaron Griffin (SR, Farm Haven, MS/Velma Jackson HS) and Ahmad Smith (SR, St. Louis, MO/Clayton HS) each had 11 points for Webster.  Smith now had 1138 career points and passed Scott Spinner (2004-07) to move into eight place on Webster's all-time scoring list.

Webster only shot 9-24 in the first half and was outrebounded by Principia, 20-8, as they entered the locker room down by eight.  Principia still led, 41-38, with 8:55 left in the game before Webster made its move.   The Gorloks tied the game at 66-66, sending it into overtime.  In the overtime session, Webster outscored Principa, 11-6, for the 77-72 final.

The Gorloks were outrebounded, 40-26, for the game, but forced 23 Panther turnovers and had 14 steals, scoring 19 points off turnovers in the second half to help fuel the come back.

Webster had a 23-game regular season win streak in the SLIAC over Principia on the line, dating back to 2003.  Webster extended the streak to 24 with the win.  The Gorloks have won four straight games, and five of their last six, and are 6-2 overall on the season.

The Gorloks host the Washington University Bears, fourth ranked nationally in the NCAA III, on December 10.  Webster has over a week off then before hosting Central College (IA) on December 19 at Grant Gymnasium, in what is believed to be the first meeting ever between the two programs.
