Gorloks Outlast Panthers, 58-55

Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team pulled out a hard fought road victory at Principia College, beating the Panthers, 58-55, on December 6 at Elsah, IL.  The Gorloks fell behind in the second half after leading most of the way, but a pair of three-pointers late in the contest sealed the win.

Brittany Harris-Conway (JR, St. James, MO/John F. Hodge HS) once again led the way for Webster, scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds, hitting a double double.  Harris-Conway had 29 points in a loss at Westminster her last time out.

Webster led, 37-28, at halftime but the Panthers kept chipping away at the lead, taking a 46-45 advantage with 8:53 left in the contest.  A pair of Gorlok three-pointers, by Taylor Bell (JR, Marco Island, FL / Lely HS) and Ashley Brooks (JR, Hermann, MO/Hermann HS), put Webster ahead for good, 58-52, with 2:43 remaining.

Principia answered with a three-pointer of its own with 2:37, but those would wind up being the final points scored in the contest.

The Gorloks and Panthers each had 37 rebounds for the game, but Webster forced 19 Panther turnovers.  Webster was 22-61 from the field in the game, but 4-11 from the three-point line.

Brooks had 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals in the game.

Webster has won 12 straight over Principia, dating back to 2009.  Webster leads the overall SLIAC regular season series with Principia, 39-12.

Webster is 2-1 in the SLIAC and 5-3 overall.  The Gorloks are home on December 10 to host Washington University, ranked fifth nationally in the NCAA III.  The team has over a week off before hosting Central College (IA) on December 19 at Grant Gymnasium.  Webster last played Central in 2010, with the Gorloks winning, 75-69, at Grant.
