Gorloks/Bears' Battle To Be Rank Affair

When the Webster University men's and women's basketball teams take on Washington University, on December 10 at Grant Gymnasium, both squads will be gunning to take down a top ten opponent in both contests.  The Bears' men's and women's teams are currently ranked third nationally in the NCAA III.

The Webster women are 5-3 so far on the season, and are led by forward Brittany Harris-Conway's (JR, St. James, MO/John F. Hodge HS) 15 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.  Center Cassie Endicott (SR, Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) averages 12.6 points, seven rebounds, and over three blocked shots per contest.  In the back court for Webster, Ashley Brooks (JR, Hermann, MO/Hermann HS) has been a 'five-tool' threat, leading the team in assists, steals, and three-point shooting, while averaging 11.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Where the Gorloks come up short, literally, against the Bears (6-0) is in height.  While Endicott is Webster's only 6-footer at 6'1, Washington U. counters with seven 6-footers on its roster.  Webster will have to rely on its speed and shooting ability with the height disadvantage it will face.

The Webster men come into the contest at 6-2, and on a four-game win streak.  The Gorloks bring balanced scoring and rebounding, and quickness to the floor.  Senior Ahmad Smith (St. Louis, MO/Clayton HS) averages 16 points and over seven rebounds per game and Hunter Ward (SO, St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood HS) 12.4 points and over seven rebounds per game as well.  Sophomore guard C.J. Moore (Homestead, FL/Miami Killian HS) has stepped in this season and averaged 12 points per game on 60% shooting from the field, while leading the team in steals.

Senior forward Aaron Griffin (Farm Haven, MS/Velma Jackson HS) has been solid, averaging 9.8 points and over four rebounds per game.  Sophomore guard Adam Etter (Albers, IL/Mater Dei HS) leads the team in assists, and is shooting 61% from the field overall while leading the Gorloks in three-point shooting at a 59% clip.

Like the Webster women, the Webster men also come up 'short' vs. Washington U. (8-0) as the Bears sport 13 players listed at 6'5 or taller on their roster with Griffin the only Gorlok (6'7) reaching the thin air.  The Gorloks have been without 6'8 center Kevin Miller (JR, Belleville, IL/Belleville East HS) so far this season as he nurses a knee injury.
