Webster Men Romp Over Eureka, 83-56

Box Score The Webster men's basketball team had a happy home send off for its seniors, beating Eureka College, 83-56, on February 22, at Grant Gymnasium.   With the win, Webster improves to 14-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and assures itself of a first round match up in the SLIAC Tournament with MacMurray College (IL).

Hollis Edwards (Nashville, TN/McGavock HS) ended his home career in fashion, with 10 assists, six steals, and eight points.  The 10 assists were a team-high for the season and the most in a game by a Gorlok since Edwards had 10 vs. Greenville College on February 15, 2012. The six steals extends his Webster career record high to 179.

Fellow senior Jarrod Huskey (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro HS) started and had 10 points, on 4-5 shooting from the field.  Much to the delight of the large Webster faithful in attendance, Huskey nailed the first three-pointer of his career late in the contest.  It was only the second three-point attempt taken in his four years as a Gorlok.

In addition to Edwards and Huskey being honored before the game as seniors, Edwards was also presented with a basketball commemorating his career steals record.

Junior Ahmad Smith (St. Louis, MO/Clayton HS) had 17 points in the game and is closing in on the exclusive 1000 point club.  Smith ranks 10th all-time in scoring for the Webster men with 956 and is 44 points shy of the 1000 club.

For the contest, the Gorloks raced to a 42-26 halftime lead and never looked back.  Webster shot a sizzling 60.7% (17-28) in the first half.  Webster wound up having a 36-18 rebound advantage for the game.

Webster is 17-7 overall on the season.  The Gorloks currently are tied for second in the SLIAC with MacMurray and will play them in the first round of the SLIAC Tournament at host Spalding University (KY).  Spalding finished first with a 16-2 record.

Webster finishes up the regular season with a contest at Fontbonne University on February 25.   The SLIAC Tournament starts on February 27.
