Webster Women Win Tune Up Over Griffs, 57-52

Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 57-52 win at Fontbonne University.  Kaliann Rikard (SR, Cuba, MO/Cuba HS) had a team-high and personal season-high 20 points in the Gorloks' final tune up before the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament this weekend.

Webster finished 13-5 in the SLIAC and will face Eureka College in a semi-final match on Thursday, February 27, at host Spalding University in Louisville, KY.

Falling behind, 24-20, after a sluggish first half that featured 15 Gorlok turnovers, Webster came out of the locker room to start the second half with a 13-0 run to take control of the contest.  The Griffins closed to within two at 49-47 with 5:35 remaining but the Gorlok defense kept them off the board until Fontbonne hit a pair of free-throws with 1:17 left.

Rikard had four free throws in the game's final 29 seconds to seal the victory.  Rikard finished 12-16 from the charity stripe.   Rikard's previous high on the season was 19 points vs. Blackburn College on January 14.  Ashley Brooks (SO, Hermann, MO/Hermann HS) had 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals in the win.

Senior forward Courtney Pursley (Lonedell, MO/St. Clair HS) had a team-high 12 rebounds and chipped in with seven points.
