Women's Tennis Falls to Maryville University

The Webster University women's tennis team fell to Maryville University, 9-0, on March 17 in Creve Coeur, MO.  The Gorloks were overmatched and undermanned in the contest vs. the NCAA II Saints.

In its first spring match of the year, the Gorloks had an uphill struggle to start vs the Saints, a member of the NCAA II Great Lakes Valley Conference, that awards athletic scholarships.  But the Gorloks, with only five available players, had to default a doubles and singles match to go into a 2-0 hole before the first serve was taken.

The highlight of the match for Webster was #1 singles player Marissa Lewis (JR, Owasso,OK/Owasso HS) falling in a tough match, 7-5, 6-4 to Maryville's Adriana Armendariz, a native of Spain.  Lewis returned to the Gorloks after a one year absence.

The Gorloks open up play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on March 21, hosting Fontbonne University at the Webster Groves Tennis Center at 5:30 p.m.
