Box Score The Webster University men's basketball team broke a two-game losing streak in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a convincing, 73-56, win over previously unbeaten Greenville College.
The Panthers had entered into the contest, at Grant Gym on January 10, 5-0 in the SLIAC. The Gorloks improved to 4-2 in the league with the win. Webster seemed to play with edginess after a surprising 20-point loss to Iowa Wesleyan two days earlier.
A Hunter Ward (SO, St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood HS) three-pointer gave Webster a comfortable 19-12 lead at 10:40 in the first half. The Gorloks extended the lead to 30-18 with 3:50 to play and ended the half up, 33-19. The teams two matched up statistically almost perfect for the half with one notable exception; the Gorloks were 14-30 from the field while the Panthers were held to 7-14 shooting…giving them the 14 point margin.
Paced by three three-pointers by Ward, the Gorloks extended their lead to 20, 48-28, five minutes into the second half. Webster held Greenville scoreless for over five minutes as it built the lead to 55-28 at the 12:00 mark. The Gorloks maintained its control of the contest as it coasted to the 73-56 final.
Ward finished with a team-high 18 points, going 5-9 from the field and 4-6 from three-point land.  Ward also had a team-high four steals and added six rebounds.  Ahmad Smith (SR, St. Louis, MO/Clayton HS) had 17 points and seven rebounds.
C.J. Moore (SO, Homestead, FL/Killian HS) had 10 points, a team-high five assists, and four rebounds. Aaron Griffin (SR, Farm Haven, MS/Velma Jackson HS) also hit double figures with 10 points, and missed a third straight double double, finishing with eight rebounds. Jonathan Odjo (SO, West Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast HS) also hit double figures with 10 points in the contest.Â
Webster improves to 8-5 overall. The Gorloks have won 11 in a row over Greenville, dating back to 2010, and 20 of last 22 meetings between the two teams.Â
Webster travels to Louisville, KY, on January 14 to face Spalding University. The Gorloks are back home on January 17 to face Big Bend rival Fontbonne University.
