Box Score The Westminster College men's soccer team took a 3-0 halftime lead over the Webster men and never looked back as it beat the Gorloks, 7-0, on October 13 at the Soccer Park. The Gorloks came into the contest hoping to leap frog the first place Blue Jays in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conferece standings, but Westminster shut the door on Webster.
Westminster scored a goal nine minutes in to take the lead, and added goals at 16:39 and 32:13 to take the halftime lead. The Blue Jays scored four unanswered goals in the second half for the 7-0 final. The Blue Jays would wind up with 15 shots on goal to the Gorloks one in the contest.
Zach Horn (JR, Godfrey, IL/Alton Marquette HS) started in goal for Webster and had six saves on ten shots on goal. Charles McGhee (FR, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo HS) relieved Horn with 27 minutes left in the game and made two saves on the five shots on goal he faced.
Webster has won outright or shared last three regular season titles while Westminster has won or shared two of the last four. Westminster has won the last two SLIAC Tournaments, defeating Webster for the championship in 2013. The Gorloks had defeated the Blue Jays in 2012 for their last tournament championship. Six of the previous seven meetings between the two teams were by a winning margin of one goal.
The Gorloks saw a three-game win streak end, and are 3-1-1 in the SLIAC and 4-8-2 overall. Westminster improves to 5-0 in the SLIAC and 11-2 overall.
Webster travels to Jacksonville, IL, on October 17 to play MacMurray College and to Louisville, KY, on October 21 to face Spalding University
