Gorloks Finish Fourth in SLIAC Tourney

The Webster University men's tennis team started out the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with a 6-0 win over Fontbonne University, but fell to Principia College in the semis and lost the third place match to Westminster College.  The Gorloks lost 5-0 to Principia, then settled for fourth place with a 5-2 loss to Westminster on April 24 at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park.

The Gorloks swept Fontbonne in doubles play, then clinched the match after taking the first two completed singles matches.  The Panthers turned the tide on the Gorloks, sweeping the doubles matches, then clinching after winning the first two completed singles matches at #2 and #3.

Against Westminster, Webster was down 2-1 after doubles play but tied the match up when Travis Blair (SR, Jerseyville, IL/Jerseyville HS) won 6-0, 6-1 at #1 singles.  The Gorloks lost the #2, #3, and #4 singles matches, though, and Westminster prevailed, 5-2.

Looking ahead to the 2015-16 year, Webster will only lose Carlton Poindexter (SR, Florissant, MO/McCluer North HS) to graduation and will have numerous returners in addtion to any new recruits head coach Mike Siener is able to add to his roster.

Blair finished the season at 7-5 in singles play, all at the #1 position.  Poindexter was 6-4 on the season in singles play, and Trent Purnell (JR, Marion, IL/Marion HS) wound up 6-6.  Both Blair and Purnell will be back next year.

Webster entered the tournament as the #4 seed, finishing the season at 5-9.
