Men's Soccer Ties Augustana, 2-2, in 2 OT

Box Score Coming from behind twice, the Webster University men's soccer team played to a double overtime, 2-2 tie vs. Augustana College (IL) at the Soccer Park on September 19.  Joey Florian and Austin Pierce each scored their first goals of the season and goalie Zach Horn had a strong game in goal for the Gorloks.

Augustana took a 1-0 lead at the 5:21 mark in the first half but Webster would tie it on a Florian's (JR, Ballwin, MO/John F. Kennedy HS) goal just 10 minutes later.  Florian took a free kick from 35 yards out and buried it in the upper right corner of the Vikings goal. It was Florian's first goal of the season.

The Vikings regained the lead at 53:00 in the second half on a penalty kick.  Augustana continued to put pressure on as Webster goalie Zach Horn (JR, Godfrey, IL/Alton Marquette HS) came up with several goal-saving stops.

Pierce (JR, O'Fallon, MO/Francis Howell Central HS) tied the game on a nifty goal at the 75:40 mark.  Freshman Zach Gyuricza (Chicago, IL/St. Viator HS) made a nice cross that Pierce fired in for his first goal of the season.

The Vikings outshot the Gorloks 16-12 in regulation, with Horn making five saves.  In the two 10-minute overtime sessions, neither team had great opportunities to score, with Webster's best chance coming on a free kick just outside the box with two minutes remaining.  Webster is 1-4-1 overall on the season with the tie.

Augustana, a member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, is now 3-3-1.

Webster is right back at the Soccer Park on September 20, hosting Simpson College (IA) at 1:00 p.m.
