Warhawks Swoop By Gorloks, 4-0

Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team lost to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 4-0, on September 18 at the Soccer Park.  The Gorloks finished a tough weekend homestand, facing #16 ranked Luther College (IA) and the Warhawks, ranked ninth in the North Region.

Whitewater scored the game's first goal at 30:11, coming on a blast off a corner kick.  The score was 1-0 at the half but the Warhawks made it 2-0 at 69:32 on a similar play with a blast off a throw in.

The Warhawks took a 3-0 lead at 70:37 on one of the more unusual goals of the season.  Webster goalie Eli Smith (FR, Orlando, FL/Dr. Phillips) sustained an injury and was down just outside the goal box and unable to move.  The Webster defense seemed to think there was a stop in play as Whitewater moved the ball to the right side of the penalty box and with one Gorlok defender between him and the goal, the Warhawk forward rolled a shot in to make it 3-0,

Smith had to be helped off the field and was replaced by freshman Kyle Hertel (Sandpoint, ID/Sandpoint).  Whitewater added one more goal at 77:34 for the 4-0 final.

Webster is 2-5 on the season and Whitewater, ranked ninth in the North Region, improves to 3-1-2.  Webster opens up play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a game at Greenville College (IL) on September 24.
