The Webster University men's tennis team finished in fourth place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament after losing, 5-0, to Westminster College on April 29 at King's Point in Belleville, IL. The Blue Jays took third place with the win.
Webster won its first round match, defeating Fontbonne University, 5-2. The Gorloks dropped into the 'third place' match with a loss to Principia College, 6-0, as the Panthers advanced to the championship.
The Gorloks fell into a 3-0 hole after being swept in doubles play, and the match ended in a 5-0 loss after the Blue Jays won the first two completed singles at #1 and #3. Charles McGhee (SO, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) and Ray Robson (SR, Clearwater, FL/Home School) took their opponents to 9-8 at #2 doubles before falling.
Eric Bateman (SR, Maryland Heights, MO/Pattonville) finished the season at 7-2 in singles play, while Nicolas Andrade (FR, Quito, Ecuador/Francis Howell) was 5-4. Bateman and partner Chris Morris (SR, St. Louis, MO/St. Mary's) had a team best 3-4 record on the year in doubles play. Webster finishes the season at 4-7 overall.
