Rodson Etienne (West Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach) continued to bring home honors on Tuesday morning as he sophomore earned this week's D3Hoops.com Team of Week honor.
Tuesday's recognition followed Etienne's first career St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week that was announced on Monday afternoon. Etienne earned his playing honors this week after his back-to-back 30-plus point performances in the Gorloks two wins last week against Greenville and Fontbonne.
The 6-foot-3 Etienne earns his spot on the D3Hoops.com Team of Week after averaging 30.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game to help the Gorloks pick up two big wins last week to improve its record to 12-4 overall and move into first place in the SLIAC with an 8-1 record. Etienne scored 30 or more points in both of Webster's wins last week and became the first Gorlok player since Webster and SLIAC Hall of Famer Jeff Reis to record consecutive 30-plus point games as Reis tallied six straight games of scoring 30 or more points during the 2000-01 season.
Etienne began the week by scoring a career high 31 points and adding seven rebounds and six assists in the Gorloks 130-122 win this past Wednesday at Greenville and then followed up that performance against Greenville with a double-double of 30 points and a career high tying 13 boards in WU's 93-87 home win on Saturday against Fontbonne.
For the week, Etienne shot 68 percent (28-for-42) from the field and also recorded 10 assists, two steals, one block and had just two turnovers in a total of 65 minutes of action. In the win against Greenville, Etienne was 15-for-24 (62.5 percent) from the field and then he went 13-for-18 (72.2 percent) from the field against Fontbonne.
Other men's players named to this week's D3Hoops.com Team of the Week included Wheaton (Ill.) College senior guard Ashton Francis, Rochester senior guard Ryan Calamage, MIT senior guard/forward A.J. Jurko and Salem State junior forward/center Hakeem Animashaun.
On the season, Etienne is third on the team in both scoring (12.1 points per game) and rebounding (4.8 rebounds per game) and is shooting a team-best 58.1 percent from the field and has scored in double figures in 10 games, including three straight games of tallying 25-plus points.
Etienne and the rest of his Gorlok teammates will look to extend its winning streak to three straight games as they host Iowa Wesleyan in a 7:30 p.m. SLIAC contest on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Grant Gymnasium. Webster collected a 66-52 win over the Tigers in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, on Dec. 1.
